Walking past Modern Times, your eye is immediately engaged with the colourful window installation: dozens of dangling, colourful paper garlands. This collaboration with local creative Marsha Goleac encapsulates the core of the Modern Times philosophy: showcasing vintage European pieces with local Australian art pieces.

Modern Times embraces both a vintage flair and modern style in design pieces that are both European and Australian. Their founder, Amy Malin, shared the story behind the showroom with The Home Journal.

Modern Times was born from Amy and Joel Malin’s desire to furnish their new home and their struggle to access good vintage European pieces.

‘We were looking to buy some new furniture for our house and were after some mid-century Danish pieces. Joel had the bright idea to look overseas and before I knew it, he had bought some pieces…but he hadn’t really thought about shipping them over and when he did we realised how expensive it was going to be. His entrepreneurial solution was to buy a whole container [full]!’
